2007 Already? Hillary Moves Closer to Victory

Wow, time has flown, and I have definitely neglected this site badly. But now that primary season is well under way, I hope to repair that fault.

Today's big news: Hillary and Barack Obama are neck and neck in Obama's home state of Illinois! Of course, Hillary is the Democratic frontrunner overall by a strong margin (16 points according to the latest polls.

For anyone who cares, I'd just like to make my position clear about this election. My support of Hillary Clinton (a longstanding support, as anyone who glances at the dates on this blog can guess) does not mean that I don't respect the other Democratic candidates in the race. And I will get behind any qualified Democratic candidate who gets the party's nomination next summer. Until that time, though, I'm all Hillary!

Obviously, I have not posted updates on here recently. There are a few reasons: 1) I'm very busy, 2) I found there wasn't that much going on with HRC's presidential possibilities. But I'm noting a little more activity and interest in the topic now, and I think it will continue to increase as 2008 grows closer. So I will try to check in here every once in awhile as things progress with Hillary Clinton.

So on that note, a little update:

Clinton is considered the Democratic frontrunner for 2008. Here is a CNN piece about her possible candidacy. The article notes that she has already raised $33 million for her campaign. A good indication that she's serious about the possibility of taking back the White House. Keep up the good work, Hillary!

Post Part Deux (In case you missed it, I had so much material, I split the post in two):

Hillary Clinton is currently in India, after a visit to Iraq with 4 other senators. She was there when the bombings occured, but is, of course, fine. She has criticized Bush's handling of Iraq, and she apparently, made a friend over there: Republican Senator John McCain, who said she would make a good President (read about it in the New York Daily News. I think it's pretty awesome that Hillary's got some support from the GOP, even if McCain does say that he'll back the Republican candidate in 2008. We know where your heart truly is, Senator. =)

Also in the news has been Hillary's statement that it's important for pro-choice activists to recognize that abortion is a last resort, saying that abortion represents "a sad, even tragic choice to many young women." While she is still committed to protecting abortion rights, Hillary said that abortion should be "safe, legal, and rare." These statements make it clear Hillary won't be put in a box.

On that topic, I really, really recommend this fascinating Houston Chronicle Op-editorial about how Democrats are reconnecting to religion and how it may be very good for the party. As the article points out, Democrats have sort of stopped talking about religion since Martin Luther King Jr. died, and I think it's definitely hurt us. Anyhow, HRC has been bringing up her beliefs (the article specifically discusses the abortion topic above).

Hillary Clinton's Republican Fan Club?

I'm so sorry I haven't updated more recently. I've been busy with law school financial aid stuff--more work than the actual school applications, by the way. But I promise to make up for it with lots of stuff right now. In fact, I have so much to include that I think I'll split it in to 2 posts.

The really big news that I didn't get posted in here was that a recent USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll found Hillary Clinton to be the leading Democratic candidate for 2008. She is expected to be a virtual shoe-in for the Democratic nomination if she runs, according to USA Today.

Meanwhile, another recent poll found that Americans are ready for a female president, and Hillary Clinton is the number one choice. Read all about it here: WNYT News-Albany.

Hillary Clinton's Collapse

Okay, so by now, pretty much everyone in the world has heard about Hillary Clinton's brief fainting spell. If you haven't, you can read the NY Post's take on it: "Spillary Clinton."

Apparently, it was just a 24-hour stomache virus. But around 30 of her staff members reportedly also got sick. Nobody knows what caused it. Now, I don't mean to sound like some conspiracy theorist, but when first heard the news, it reminded me of that Ukrainian presidential candidate. A highly controversial politician, one day he was fine, the next day he was sick. And it looks like his soup was poisoned, possibly by the head of the Ukrainian Secret Service.

It's kind of a scary world out there. Especially when you support a candidate who garners so much passionate dislike from some corners. Let me be clear: I'm not saying that she was poisoned. It's just that this whole thing reminded me that in an era of mysteriously appearing anthrax, political leaders have to be extra careful.

Luckily, Hillary is feeling better. Here's hoping she never gives us that kind of scare again!

Hillary Clinton: Bush Lacks Economic Vision

At nearly the same time that the Bush administration announced that they need a staggering sum to "complete our mission" in Iraq, Hillary Clinton spoke about Bush's lack of economic vision. Speaking to a Florida audience on Monday, she pointed out that the US currently borrows $50 million each month from other countries. Read the article.

Hillary can speak from an insider's view of the White House during one of the most prosperous times in our nation's history. President Clinton spent his time in office working on a $500 billion deficit reduction. I think it's obvious that Bush's fiscal policies have been irresponsible by comparison.

Bush says he will seek 80 billion additional dollars for our ongoing wars, that it will cost approximately 1.8 trillion dollars to extend his tax-cut plan, and that we can expect a $368 billion deficit this year. For more information, check out this fascinating Newsday article. In total, we've spent over $300 billion on war expenses. Imagine what we could have done with that money: the schools we could have funded, the human services provided...Or the deficit we could have closed.

Morris Calls Hillary Clinton Next Democratic Nominee

According to an article in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, political strategist Dick Morris says that Hillary Clinton "has a superb chance of winning the election." "There is no way that she is not going to win that nomination," Morris has said. Some might say that he's biased cuz he worked on Bill Clinton's 1996 election campaign; however, as the article notes, Morris is clearly not Hillary's biggest fan.

For further Hillary reading, you might check out this NY Times article from December that discusses her chances in a presidential run. My favorite part:

Mrs. Clinton offered a revealing answer when asked recently whether Republicans might be hoping that she becomes the Democratic presidential nominee in 2008, since it would give the G.O.P. a divisive figure to run against.

Mrs. Clinton - who studiously avoids answering questions about her presidential ambitions - quickly responded. "We have a president who is quite polarizing - and very successful, I might add," Mrs. Clinton said during an appearance on NBC's "Today."

Hillary Clinton's Presidential Run Confirmed?

Great news! According to "Washington Whispers" on usnews.com, Hillary Clinton's brothers say that she is interested in running for president. Hope they're right!

In other HRC news, Clinton has publicly stood up and chided Bush for his policies that prohibit international organizations receiving US funds from even mentioning abortion. Sounds like a woman ready for national leadership to me.

Welcome One and All

This is the start of something new and for me, the continuation of something old. I've long been an admirer of Hillary Clinton's for her strength, intelligence, political-savvy, and her commitment to health care and education.

Now, as President Bush's second inauguration looms, I feel it's time to take some action to get our country back on track. So I'm beginning this blog as my contribution. My goals are 1) to encourage Hillary Clinton to run for president in 2008 by demonstrating public support, 2) to provide a clearinghouse for information regarding Senator Clinton, and 3) to express my own views regarding her possible presidential run.

I know that Hillary Clinton is something of a controversial figure. Right now, I have comments enabled because I hope it will encourage positive discussion. If at any point, I feel that the comment forum is out of control or simply disrespectful to any participants, I may discontinue it or delete comments. So please, let's try to keep it positive for everyone's sake!
